I'm building a system this summer and wanted to know if gentoo runs that much faster on a 64 bit CPU than on a 32 bit one. What especially do i need to do in order to take advantage of the 64 bit processor? Thanks!

You will just have to follow the amd64 installation handbook, here. The amd64 name is historically inspired, but 64bit Intel x86 CPUs are covered as well.
The main point is to start the system with a 64bit Install/Live-CD or DVD (or any other existing 64bit Linux) and then to set the correct CHOST during installation.
EDIT: the AMD 64 forum is the forum for further problems on that machine which are 64bit-specific |
