I have a new Acer Travelmate 8200 series.... now that there are ATI drivers for my X1600 I have been trying to get the SVideo or the CRT outputs to work. Unfortunately, when I try to enable the alternate display devices with Fn+F5 nothing happens. I can get the CRT display to work if I restart the laptop with the external monitor connected. Does anyone anyone have any advice for me to get my Fn+F5 switch working?

Maybe your Fn+X keys don't work right now and they need some extra software.
I have a toshiba laptop and i needed to install FnFX, which is only for toshiba laptops, to get these keys wo work.
I don't know, if there is something similar for acer laptops out there?!

You could try this one out:
Code:
emerge -av acerhk

homepage: http://www.informatik.hu-berlin.de/~tauber/acerhk/
Your laptop is not named there explicitly, but travalmate 8000 and many other.
I hope this works!

well Fn+F6 turns of the LCD backlight, Fn+F7 disables the touchpad, Fn+Left and Fn+Right change the brightness.... this works with out any extra software

I Fn+Up and Fn+Down, the mail button and the www button generage scan codes and i have them set up with xmodmap. Problem is that Fn+F5 should generate an acpi even i think and does not... acerhk dosent help me out

i will try fnfx, i used that when i had a toshiba
