Dell D600 Grub / BIOS Display Problem

I've a Dell D600 Laptop running Gentoo (including Sound, ATI, Winmodem, Wireless, Suspend, Hibernate, LDAP SSO Replica) working well (i must post up an updated howto for this computer!).

One slight problem is that I can't use the Splash Image in Grub. It used to work fine, but something screwed around with my bios.

The grub screen appears tiny in the middle of the display which is of size 1024x768. The dell logo and progress bar on POST is similar. I don't know what could have changed this as I never changed anything in the BIOS. Anybody dealt with this problem before?
