PLEASE NOTE: This is on rc2 stage 1 DISC, not installed version!!!!!!

I can't get the Network running. I modprobed my Network Card - it worked, but DHCP sent back manayyyy Timeouts:

eth0 transmit timeout, status 00000000027 (or so)

This was a SiS900
and then i put in a Realtek Fast Ethernet Family PCI Card.
Thsi time i get somethin like
Tx duuplex blabla.... couple of times....
I have Trouble.... big Trouble.... can it be that these Network card don't work?

p.s.:The Network works fantstically on Win XP, which is parallel.

Well depending on the network card, see if you have a link light on the back. Some cards, even with no drivers, still have a link light on them if there is link.
So both network cards didn't work?
What were the errors when typed in dhcpcd ?
can you give me your exact error?
this would help.

:)

Oh one more thing. Who is your service provider through?
I used to have problems that the service was bound to a mac address of only one network card.
That could be an issue here.
Let us know.
thanx

well, it says nothing. I said those errors up there come in dmesg.
When i dhcpcd my card, itjust waits a couplue of seconds and a new line appears. My Link Light is on (gies to Hub, which goes to modem) .

And my Provider is Cablecom, Switzerland (hehe) http://www.hispeed.ch .
I doubt you know them, but it might just be true that they are bound to one MAC Adress. ... it works fine in windows, though.

Do you know if it works in windows with a different network card.
Also try an
Code:
lsmod
to see what modules are loaded
let me know what the lsmod comes up with.
Also any way I could see those errors from the dmesg?
thanx

all right... here's the stuff:

lsmod @startup :
('Size' was omitted...)
Code:

module       used         by
strip            0       (unused)
slhc             0       (unused)
mii              0
dummy            0       (unused)
aironet4500_proc 0       (unused)
aironet4500_core 0       [aironet4500_proc]
8390             0
cloop            1

Then, after
Code:

# modprobe 8139too

The lsmod looked like this:

Code:

module       used         by
8139too          0
strip            0       (unused)
slhc             0       (unused)
mii              0         [8139too]
dummy            0       (unused)
aironet4500_proc 0       (unused)
aironet4500_core 0       [aironet4500_proc]
8390             0
cloop            1

And then i did:
Code:

# dhcpcd eth0
//some seconds of waiting...about 10
//new Code line appers
#

And dmesg says this:

Code:

eth0: Tx queue start entry 4 dirty entry 0
eth0: Tx decsriptor 0 is 000020000 (queue ahed)
eth0: Tx decsriptor 1 is 000020000
eth0: Tx decsriptor 2 is 000020000
eth0: Tx decsriptor 3 is 000020000
eth0: Tx decsriptor 4 is 000020000
eth0: setting half-duplex based on auto-negotiated partner ability 0000

Well, I hope that helps...

ok. looks like you have a wireless card installed also? This a laptop?
if you have multiple network interfaces remove them except for the ethernet card. then try.

I've got the same problem with cablecom. I'm trying to fix that. there's no way to get an ip. no problem in windows but I tried it with a jollix (gentoo-based) hard-disk installation.
so if you could fix this please help me.
