I finally got my system to boot with the correct frambuffer and stuff but I can get my network to work. I dont have an eth* node in /dev. I have an onboard sis network interface. When I configured the kernel I selected the correct drivers than did the regular "make && make modules_install" but I noticed that the last line of output is "if [ -r System.map -a -a /sbin/depmod] then ....." so I executed the "then ...." command and nothing happened. I have no idea whats up with that so if anyone could please tell me what the heack is going on. I have internet access in with the live cd and the interface is called eth1 but the is no eth1 node in /dev!!. Also I did the while nano /etc/conf.d/net and rc-update add eth0 default but when I rebooted my kernel complained that it couldnt find eth0. ifconfig says that I have only one interface and thats the loopback interface. lsmod outputs no installed modules. I despritly tried to ping google.com and yahoo.com and gentoo.com aand the other box connected to my network but I got nothing.

PS: My network uses DHCP

What ip address and netmask are you using (or trying to use)?

The netwoek is configured using dhcp so I dont need a netmask or an IP..... I was thinking about this and maby I didnt install my kernel correctly the steps I took where:
Code:

make menuconfig
#did all the configureation correctly and I double cheacked it
make
make modules_install
reboot

Tat all I did to reconfigure and reinstall my kernel.. did I miss something?... the reason I'm asking is because I did "ls /dev | less" and when I went through the list of nodes I hade a bunch of stuff that I didnt need like ppp which I took aout of my kernel and like 20 hd* and I only have a dvd-rw and a cd-rom on my ide and like another 20 st* while I only have one SATA hard drive with three partitions... What did I do wrong?
