I just emerged the new version of Gaim, but it did not work at all.
It seems like it actually connects to an AOL server, but then fails to maintain the connection. I can see that the normal windows is drawn for a brief moment, before it closes it off.
I did try all the normal things, removed the old .gaimrc and .gaim directory, same result.
I then downgraded to 0.59 again and everything works fine.
I'm pretty sure this is related to the Proxy function as I use HTTP_PROXY. Nobody else seems to have the same problem, so I guess a direct connection works, alas, I do not have that option at work.

On a Redhat 8 machine here at work, I installed gaim 0.60 today. First, setting the proxy setting inside gaim did not work. Then I set it to "no proxy" inside of gaim, and suprisingly enough, it connected and stayed connected.
I don't have HTTP_PROXY defined in my environment. And last I checked, the admins do have a proxy set up. So I'm not sure what's going on. I'm just really surprised it works. |
