I'm just looking for a gut check before I go ahead with this plan. I want to learn how to setup and use LDAP, FreeRadius and Samba as a domain controller, mostly to secure the wireless network but also to provide a means of centrally authenticating users for network resource access. Our household has 3 Gentoo boxes (laptop, server/nat/firewall/mailserver, MythTV), 2 windows boxes (my wife's computer and my gaming/video editing box) and 2 pocket pc's. The only things going wireless are the MythTV box (didn't want to run a wire), pocket pc's and the laptop.
From what I know at this point, Samba can act as a domain controller and use LDAP for user information. FreeRadius can likewise use LDAP. So I'm guessing the best plan for minimum downtime would be to setup LDAP then setup Samba to act as the PDC, move our windows boxes to the new 'domain' and then on to FreeRadius and WPA.
Does this sound like a doable plan? About the biggest uncertainty for me at this point is using Samba as a domain controller with LDAP, obviously I'd like all user information to be stored in LDAP and not have to change passwords in samba to match or any other wacky stuff.
Thanks for any advice on this
edit: I've found several howto's for parts of this, I'm just looking for input on this plan/configuration. I may have missed some better tools and the like. _________________ Poxart |
