Probably a dumb question resulting from an etc-update oversight:

When I open any terminal app (eterm, aterm, etc) in X it never gives me a prompt. Various terminal apps give various errors, but the best error is from Gnome-terminal "There was an error creating the child process for this terminal".

I can get a terminal by starting an SSH session from a different machine, and I can log-on using other virtual consoles. Any ideas?

Thanks ;)

The solution, by the way, was to fix permissions on /dev/ptmx - it was 600 and worked when I set it to 666. Not sure what changed the perms; assuming udev.
