Okay, I'm either incredibly stupid or emerge is lying to me. When I try to emerge xorg-7.1 I once again have to go through and unmask a ton of things via keyword -not a big deal. Everything was going fine until I got to >=x11-drivers/xf86-video-v41-0.1.1 it was masked by ~amd64. So, I hop into /etc/portage/package.keywords and I go to town adding the line Code: | >=x11-drivers/xf86-video-v41-0.1.1 ~amd64 |
and then emerge x11 again and I get that wonderful message telling me this package is still masked by keyword ~amd64. >.< Anyone else seen this or found a way around it? _________________ To err is human, to really cock up takes a computer.

it's not only ~amd64, it's hard masked! This means you have to add Code: | >=x11-drivers/xf86-video-v41-0.1.1 | to /etc/portage/package.unmask too... |

Tried this and still the same results, I was so hopeful too. Thanks for the suggestion BTW. _________________ To err is human, to really cock up takes a computer. |

Pretty sure, I gave a good idea of what's going on, but lemme show you exactly what I see.
Code: | Snicbox ~ # emerge x11
Calculating dependencies |
!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy ">=x11-drivers/xf86-video-v41-0.1.1" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- x11-drivers/xf86-video-v41-0.1.1 (masked by: ~amd64 keyword)
For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man page or
refer to the Gentoo Handbook. |
This is getting kinda frustrating now, I can't figure out what the hell is masking this.
My /etc/portage/package.keywords file looks like this

Okey what about just putting the packagename itself into package.unmask? I mean without version info? I tried that and it seems to work on my machine...
btw. Code: | x11-drivers/xf86-video-v41 ~amd64
>=x11-drivers/xf86-video-v41-0.1.1 ~amd64
x11-drivers/xf86-video-v41 ~amd64 | is absolutely useless... |

Figured it out, I'm dumb as hell. In the package name it's not v41-0.1.1 it's v4l-0.1.1 Once I left my ssh session and got home to my high-res monitor I could see the difference, however I have a new issue now. I've gotten everything unmasked and when I go to emerge x11 here's what happens.
Code: | Snicbox ~ #emerge x11
make[1]: *** [colormap.lo] Error 1

Tried the forums and found a few things that looked like it could be useful, but nothing really seems to work. This is really starting to bug me. I'm relatively experience, though not an expert, but every other time I've had an issue you guys or google has had the answer. This time though no such luck. So, here's to hoping someone else has seen this. _________________ To err is human, to really cock up takes a computer. |

if you read the status release you'd have read this:
Code: | The release won't actually go out until probably Monday, due to press release timing and (hopefully) doc updates, |
