I have been running Wine for ages now, I use it to play Halflife (and its various expansion packs) and Starcraft (and its expansion pack), but recently it has started acting up. Last night it worked fine. This morning, I started it and got this...
Code:
[1][chris@toaster:~]$ halflife
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7bc67b04 "loader.c: loader_section" wait timed out in thread 000a, blocked by 0009, retrying (60 sec)
wine: Critical section 7bc67b04 wait failed at address 0x7bc2bf00 (thread 000a), starting debugger...
WineDbg starting on pid 0x8
Unhandled exception: wait failed on critical section 0x7bc67b04
err:seh:raise_exception Unhandled exception code c0000194 flags 0 addr 0x7bc2bf00
Process of pid=0x00000008 has terminated

However, I rebooted my machine, and it works fine again. Didn't change any configs or anything. Anybody have any thoughts on fixing this?

By the way, this is what my "halflife" executable does:
Code:
[1][chris@toaster:~]$ cat bin/halflife
#!/bin/bash
wine /home/chris/.wine/drive_c/Sierra/Half-Life/hl.exe -dev -console

Yup, it runs beautifully using OpenGL. I've been playing it under Wine since I used Redhat 7.3 (which is when I first discovered Wine). Only problems I've ever had are when Wine stops working randomly (like just now).

Did you check which processes were running when it stopped working. It might be that wineserver is till running, or maybe the sound device is used by another program.

Checked that, and there is nothing suspicious in terms of the processes.
