I believe this is the correct location for this post for this concerns my gnome desktop.

The gist:
Something on my desktop or working: the menu bar, firefox and gedit

Something are not: nautilus, the desktop, desktop icons, background

The problem:
I believe the problem to be related to the glib shared libraries, ex.
When I try to get a nautilus window from the command line I get:

nautilus: error while loading shared libraries: libgnome-menu.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I have tried revdep-rebuild, re-emerging libgnome to no avail, anybody have any other ideas to which I can solve this problem.
