hey guys,
ive got big trouble while trying to use my promise fasttrak sx4100 with gentoo and any 2.6.x kernel (prefered >=2.6.16.x).
there are three drives attached and configured as raid5.
i tried to use the kernel inbuild driver (sata_sx4, someone on the #gentoo irc channel told me) and the particial open source driver from the promise page (http://www.promise.com/support/download/download2_eng.asp?productId=141&category=driver&os=100&go=GO).
with the first, there were no drives detected.
the promise open source driver compiles with some warnings, but a insmod cause a unknown symbol error -1.
any help and/or hints are welcome.

ps. a few minutes agou i found this -> http://software.tirsvad.dk/
so i think this card should work with the 2.6.x kernel series.... _________________ why not? |

you know that promise raid controllers are not real 'hardware raid' but fake raid?
so, if the problem is: "the kernel do not find the raid5 array into the devices", this is normal, kernel drivers permit you to use the promise controller as a normal controller IDE, nothing else.
instead, if the problem is: "the kernel is not able to find the hds attached to the controller" can be a kernel misconfiguration, you have enabled the right kernel module?

p.s.: here you can find a complete list of 'fakeraid' (also your SX4xxx) _________________ Arch Tester for Gentoo/FreeBSD
