|
|
Hi, I have to re-post it in a new thread since I read https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-449318.html but it doesn't help.
I am following the instruction on page
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO:_Gentoo_and_VMware_Workstation_5.5.1
but after I ran /usr/bin/vmware-config-tools.pl, it stopped by below message:
Code: |
...
make[l]: Leaving directory '/usr/src/linux-2.6.16-gentoo-r7'
cp -f vmhgfs.ko ./../vmhgfs.o
make: Leaving directory '/tmp/vmware-config0/vmhgfs-only'
The module loads perfectly in the running kernel.
Can not find /etc/init.d/network and /etc/init.d/networking.
The fast network device driver (vmxnet module) is used only for our fast networking interface. The rest of the software provided by VMware Tools is designed to work independently of this feature.
If you wish to have the fast network driver enabled, you can install the driver by running vmware-config-tools.pl again after making sure that gcc, binutils, make and the kernel sources for your running kernel are installed on your machine. These packages are available on your distributions installation CD.

Is there anything wrong with my X.org? I re-emerged it and even did Migrating to Modular X according to http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/desktop/x/x11/modular-x-howto.xml, though I don't know if it is necessary.
However, the problem is still there. Will anyone be kind to help? Thanks a lot!
My kernel is 2.6.16-r7 and VMware is 5.5.1 build-19175.
By the way, I found one thing strange. when I used emerge --info, I saw:
Code: |
virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2.
|
This is different from my real kernel. I don't know how it wrote like this. Does it effect the VM tool installation? How to correct?
Sorry for so many questions. Thanks again! |

This is solved by making a fake /etc/init.d/network.

X7 it's not still supported by vmware scripts. You're safe installing vmware drivers using
Code: | INPUT_DEVICES="... vmmouse"
VIDEO_CARDS="vmware |

Thanks! I mkdir /etc/init.d/network, the network error message disappeared.
My /etc/make.conf currently is:
Code: |
INPUT_DEVICES="keyboard mouse vmmouse"
VIDEO_CARDS="vmware
|
The X.org error message is still there. Do you mean I can ignore it by just adding vmmouse into make.conf?
Thanks!! |

Yes, the script doesn't build anything else after the video and mouse drivers. Note that if you search on vmware forums there's some patch around, but it's lenghty and difficult to apply, I think it doesn't worth. _________________ Adopt an unanswered post

This VMware-tools has bothered me for some days. If it can't be installed, I would not get files under my windowsXP. I did go to vmware forum to look for help. Someone built new vmware video and vmmous drivers for Xorg 7. I applied and edited xorg.conf, but it didn't solve my problem. vmware-tool couldn't start up. |
