I have a problem with amarok. It will not play mp3s but will play wavs and oggs. xmms and vlc play all the files. I have no clue why this is happening and any help will be appreciated.

What engine are you using. Check that your engine can play your files.

I am using the xine engine. I checked by opening up xine and it too cannot play mp3s.

Check what use flags xine and xine-lib are compiled with.
mp3 need the mad useflag I think.
