I'm running Gentoo on a Pentium 4 Willamette, with 'pentium4' specified in my make.conf file with MMX, SSE, and SSE2. My first question is that MPlayer says my CPU supports MMX2, but that it is disabled. Now, if my CPU supports MMX2, than why doesn't it tell me in 'cat /proc/cpuinfo'? I was also hoping someone could tell me what 'MMX EXT' is. In VLC, under the Preferences/Advanced/CPU Features section, it has a checkbox next to it, and I was wondering if I should enable it. _________________ "Be excellent to each other" - Bill & Ted |

What does /proc/cpuinfo info say? You won't see mmx there. You'll see sse, sse2. If it has sse3, you'll see pni (Prescott New Instructions). _________________ Thomas S. Howard |
