|
|
I need a programming text editor. But I have some specific requirements.
- Has to be small. So that probably breaks it down to run-in-terminal ones.
- Provides real-time programming colors. Not the ones that will only show color codes when I open the file again.
- Gives me some kind of sign that a piece of code is broken in the script. I am sure I will be getting a lot of broken codes, so I would like to know which part specifically I need to fix.
So is there something that meets my specification? |

maybe you want to give vi a try. It supports many file formats and programming languages. However it does have a bit of learning curve. |

The actual application is vim. That stands for vi improved. I understand version 7 has a lot of programming language support. However, I suggest you look at the other venerable editor, emacs. The learning curve is similar to vi and there are all sorts of programming modules. |

Uh oh... let the vi <-> emacs flame war begin.
Wasn't one of the old flames: EMACS - Eight Megabytes Almost Continuously Swapping
(doesn't really apply with todays hardware though)
Try both and see which you find easier. _________________
