hello. im not sure if this is the right place for this. but here goes!
im trying to install a dedicated server box, heres what im looking for. but first the specs
ibm netvista box
863 mghz pentium III (coppermine)
Intel network
512MB sdRAM
20gb + 10 gb ide hds
Heres what im trying to get:
apache (or equivalent http server) with php, and mysql support for forum boards
pureftpd
ssh
vmware (windows xp to run a soonr or skype server)
no X-term
anyone have any suggestions or ideas to go about it? im currently bootstrapping im starting from the beginning |

About vmware: You want to install VMWare Workstation to run Windows XP? On a server?
Well... then good luck. You will need to keep the VMWare session all time runing. You will need X for that. (or you could use something else, like ESX/GSX from VMWare). But if you need the VMWare workstation, then add: | Code: | | emerge vmware-workstation |
to the above list.

| what exactly is esx/gsx and with suggestions, like, different programs to do the tasks, utilities to remotely manage these things. program to configure them. since this computer is going to be docked at a friends house. |
