Hi,
this is probably a damn stupid question, but I need to know how I would go about creating a /home partition? I know how to partition and make the file system and all that, but when I orriginally did the install, I just went with a standard /boot /swap / partition setup, so currently my home dir is on /. I have not set up any user accounts yet, and nothing is in the /home directory under root. Do I need to tell the system I now want all users home dirs installed on the separate partition, or will it detect this. Also, is it safe to just del the current home directory? I want this setup, so that if I need to re-install the system, I don't loose /home.
regards Greg
ps when I mount the /home partition in fstab, are there any special options I need to give it? |

You don't need to remove the /home directory, you can use it as mountpoint for the partition you want to use as home.
In fstab specify to automount it at boot.
btw you don't have lose /home if you reinstall unless you want to reformat. You can simply boot the CD, mount the partition, remove everything but /home (and maybe /usr/portage to save download time), extract the tarball and continue... _________________ I may not agree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it. |
