|
|
Just a heads up... I updated my kernel to linux-2.6.16-gentoo-r7 and direct rendering stopped working.
I attempted to reemerge ati-drivers, but was unable to emerge. I had to add the following to /etc/portage/package.keywords
Code: | x11-drivers/ati-drivers ~amd64 | to get 3d acceleration again. Apparently you need newer drivers for this kernel release, which aren't yet marked stable for amd64.
I'm not sure if this has been said before, but it took me a while to figure out. |

I use the ATI drivers, and although I use mostly the stable stuff, I use ~amd64 for the ATI drivers, KDE and friends, so I skipped by that oddity, but I did notice that with 2.6.16-gentoo-r7 the fish protocol stops working properly in KDE 3.5.2.
See this thread for details:

Alas, I am not brave enough to use ~amd64 on KDE. My KDE is buggy enough as it is... |

I'd advise everyone keep "x11-drivers/ati-drivers ~amd64" in their package.keywords. I've not had any of the problems with the kernel/ati-driver combinations I've seen people here have. _________________ Gentoo systems.
