This may be interesting. Shows how to easily remove the old slotted packages.

Code:
emerge -Cp ~`ls -d /var/db/pkg/kde-base/*-3.4* | cut -d/ -f 6 | tr $'\n' ' ' | sed -e "s: : ~:g"`
shoud remove kde-3.4 completely.

Anyone know why unmerging kde-meta-3.4 and emerge -p depclean doesn't remove all of the kde 3.4 packages? If emerging kde-meta installed them, then theoretically unmerging kde-meta and doing a depclean SHOULD unmerge it. Anyone have an explanation why this doesn't work, and if it's something that's being worked on in portage? It is kind of annoying having to do funky things with sed to remove an old version of KDE after an upgrade.
