|
|
Hi Guys..
I need advice on implementing our DNS server. Currently this is our setup:
* NS1 and NS2 Servers are hosted in www.ultradns.com
* we need to put caching server in our local network
Question:
* do i need to put the caching server to public or private ip's?
* can i make the caching server also as a DNS Server for local network?
thanks a lot! _________________ janskey

Private. Otherwise you're probably in for a nice DDoS attack.

That's the point of caching DNS. You configure your clients to use your caching server as their DNS
server and each time they make DNS requests the server updates its cache.
Check these url's for more information on how to set it up:

hi zen_guerrilla
what i mean by "* can i make the caching server also as a DNS Server for local network?" is can i make a DNS caching server at the same time a DNS Server [localns1.company.com] for my windows and linux desktop users. so that they can use names for connecting other users.
ex.
if a windows users can use \\computer to another windows computer..
thanks _________________ janskey

Ummm, sorry, missed your point. Check the url's on my previous post for instructions on how to do that
w/ djbdns.
If you've never configured djbdns or bind before I'd suggest to check dnsmasq (it's in portage) out.
It does exactly what you want and is very easy to install and setup. |
