hello
gentoo seems to be installed on my laptop in some form now, so I think I can take out the cd for once, but I have a problem..
When loading up it throws errors:
Root filesystem could not be mounted read/write
and then continues on to throw another:
mkdir: Cannot create directory /newroot/tmp/.initrd
Can someone help me fix this?
And just to note: I had an earilier error where the computer ran out of memory during the first part of the coldplug emerge: 'emerge libusb-10' . So I simply emerged the older libusb-8 on its own and then emerged coldplug skipping the first package (which luckily was libusb)
Code: | emerge =libusb-0.1.8
emerge coldplug --skipfirst |

The three most common causes for your problem:
- problems with the controller driver, make sure the right driver is compiled into the kernel, has to be * in make menuconfig, check if is found on boot
- wrong grub configuration check your settings again, maybe wrong root option
- the filesystem of root partition is not compiled into the kernel (* again)

thanks for the help, i fixed it
It was root filesystem.. i had it set to ext3 when it should have been ext2 ... docs and livecd made me think it was ext3.
I set them all to auto in the fstab and it fixed it but it didn't load the swap disc, but that was easily fixed since it still loaded up the os and i could write to root so i could edit the file as soon as it loaded up and changed auto to swap |
