I'm still committing it (it takes about an entire day, so I'm actually using up almost all my free time for this :/) that's why it's still masked. Until the whole stuff is done trying to install it will fail as the dependency tree won't be satisfied.

konsole died on me :cry:
I'm still compiling the rest though. Lets see what happens...

Code:

It is not yet unmasked, I know there are still a few packages to remove the patches from, konsole was one of them (just committed because I reached that point of rebuild myself). Unfortunately is not easy to do this job without a practical "try-reject" method, and this is the reason why it's in package.mask right now.

As I've said, on http://farragut.flameeyes.is-a-geek.org/ you can follow the progress of it, when it will be unmasked, there it will be said :) Don't expect it before tomorrow afternoon (CEST) tho, as I'm still compiling here on the _first_ box, and I hadn't had the time, yet, of testing the binutils patch, for instance.

Time is what it is, I'm trying to do my best, unfortunately I wasn't prepared to this mess as the only other time I did it, it was for alpha1, and then I was plenty of time to do the bump ;) (not many people wanted that version at the time), and I don't have access to pre-release tarballs that could have helped me quite a bit.

Anyway, now it's just matter of time for split ebuilds to be all safe :) Please be patient for a while still.

UNMASKED!!! Yeah!

Looks like kdelibs-3.5.3 really don't like -as-needed flag.

EDIT
Second time it compiled OK with as-needed ldflag.

Hi,

two questions:

1)will there be monolithic ebuilds too?

2) if not, is there a nice way to go from monolithic to split without unmerging the monolithics first?

I'd prefer to use my KDE desktop while updating like in the past.

The ebuild is ready, I'm test-building now, will be available later today.

@Flameeyes:

I didn't intend to push you in any way. Just thought I'd try and help finding bugs. I guess I misread your posts about being patient... :oops: (Sorry about that)

Thanks a lot for your hard work :!:

@Flameeyes

is --as-needed enabled by default on kde? Because i dont have it in my make.conf and had to build kdelibs twice anyhow. It caused errors on first compilation

What you mean "caused errors"? The two times rebuild implies that it ends the merge twice, not that it fails one time :)

If it failed it might have caused by something else (like you synced too soon ;))

He means it's possible you did an emerge --sync before the changes were available from the server.

Somebody has problem compiling kpdf-3.5.3? I can't compile:
Code:
generator_pdf.cpp: In member function 'QString PDFGenerator::getDocumentDate(const QString&) const':
generator_pdf.cpp:752: error: 'UGString' was not declared in this scope
make[4]: *** [generator_pdf.lo] Error 1
make[4]: Leaving directory `/mnt/portage/tmp/portage/kpdf-3.5.3/work/kpdf-3.5.3/kpdf/core/generator_pdf'
make[3]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory `/mnt/portage/tmp/portage/kpdf-3.5.3/work/kpdf-3.5.3/kpdf/core'
make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/mnt/portage/tmp/portage/kpdf-3.5.3/work/kpdf-3.5.3/kpdf'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/mnt/portage/tmp/portage/kpdf-3.5.3/work/kpdf-3.5.3'
make: *** [all] Error 2

As a workaround I've to patch generator_pdf.cpp
Code:
diff -Naur kpdf-3.5.3.orig/core/generator_pdf/generator_pdf.cpp kpdf-3.5.3/core/generator_pdf/generator_pdf.cpp
--- kpdf.orig/core/generator_pdf/generator_pdf.cpp      2006-05-22 20:05:33.000000000 +0200
+++ kpdf/core/generator_pdf/generator_pdf.cpp   2006-06-02 12:40:45.000000000 +0200
@@ -742,7 +742,8 @@

     if ( infoDict->lookup( data.latin1(), &obj )->isString() )
     {
-        s = UGString(*obj.getString()).getCString();
+       s = obj.getString()->getCString();
+        //s = UGString(*obj.getString()).getCString();
         if ( s[0] == 'D' && s[1] == ':' )
             s += 2;

After that it looks like working fine.

Please sync and make sure that the package.mask does not contain KDE 3.5.3, that kpdf problem has been solved already before unmasking KDE.

I can't seem to compile kicker even with -fvisibility-inlines-hidden and --as-needed commented out and USE="-kdehiddenvisibility -kdenewldflags".

3.5.3 works fine here, at least what I use of it.
Code:
kcheckpass-3.5.0/         kdesktop-3.5.3/     konsole-3.5.3/
kcminit-3.5.3/            kdesu-3.5.3/        kpdf-3.5.3/
kcontrol-3.5.3/           kdialog-3.5.3/      kpersonalizer-3.5.3/
kdebase-data-3.5.3/       kdm-3.5.3/          kreadconfig-3.5.0/
kdebase-kioslaves-3.5.3/  kfind-3.5.3/        ksmserver-3.5.3/
kdebase-startkde-3.5.3/   kghostview-3.5.3/   ksplashml-3.5.3/
kde-env-3-r4/             khelpcenter-3.5.3/  kview-3.5.3/
kde-i18n-3.5.3/           khotkeys-3.5.3/     kwalletmanager-3.5.3/
kdelibs-3.5.3/            kicker-3.5.3/       kwin-3.5.3/

kdeprint-3.5.3/           konqueror-3.5.3/

Didn't have any issue merging it.

Thanks Flameeyes!

Why kde-base/kdebase-3.5.3 is not in portage?
