I recently installed a new Gentoo machine and are now configuring the email section on it.

I installed postfix and tested the installation. I can send emails to myself or any address so that works fine. However... when I send an email, the emailaddres from the sender is displayed as: rutger@svr.svr.cts.homelinux.net. svr is the servername, cts.homelinux.net the domainname (from dyndns.org). So it add's the hostname and the local dns name behind the @ sign.

In /etc/postfix/main.cf is hostname and domainname qualified as follows:
myhostname = svr.cts.homelinux.net
mydomain = cts.homelinux.net
myorigin = $mydomain

I would like a sender email addres like rutger@cts.homelinux.net, what am I doing wrong?

You are sending email with an incomplete from address. Postfix rewrite does the rest. Configure your email client correctly and you'll be fine.

But I guess that it will be possible to configure the 'rewrite' action from Postfix so it will add a correct adres?? I prefer setting it right as topmost as possible.... :wink:

By the way.. it isn't only in the sender... When I want to send an emailmessage from one user to another and do that with only the username postfix add's svr.svr.cts.homelinux.net behind it as well. So I can't send messages between users by their name.

You need to read the rewrite docs.

Well... i looked over the rewrite manual (http://www.postfix.org/rewrite.html), and tried different options, but without luck...

When I send a message and look in the mailq afterwards I see the following error:
Code:

-Queue ID- --Size-- ----Arrival Time---- -Sender/Recipient-------
8B6B63C5536      456 Thu Jun  1 10:12:12  root@cts.homelinux.net
(Host or domain name not found. Name service error for name=svr.svr.cts.homelinux.net type=MX: Host not found, try again)
                                         rutger@svr.svr.cts.homelinux.net

Furthermore... I changed the myhostname parameter in main.cf from svr.cts.homelinux.net tot cts.homelinux.net (so the external address), but that won't help eiter..

Anyone else mayby?
