Hey, i recently did a HUGE update to my install of gentoo. I went from 2.6.2 to 2.6.16-r7, from /devfs to udev, to ntpl, and from kde 3.2 to 3.4.3. So its like a whole new system. over 500 packages were emerged.

But i lost some hard drives. I added irqpoll and noacpitimer to kernel args in grub and that got 2 of my 3 back however my most important one isnt back, hde. Ive seen a lot of errors like this on the forum and everyone tells them their drives are dieing but this is one of the newer drives and there is one extra line of error that makes me think its not dieing.

It says Drive not ready for command. This is what i think sets this apart form the other errors. Any help would be appreciated, i have a lot of data that cant be replaced on there and ive been working on this for 4 days.

Thank you in advance for any help =)

You tried mounting it from a live cd? Can you try attaching your drive to a different cable (hdb) or attach it to a back up box? This would eliminate the possibility of a hardware problem or software problem other than the dirve itself. You can also attach it to a cd-rom cable in a different box. did you save your old kernel as a fall back kernel? can you mount it from there? Did you select the correct file system?
Back up back up and more back up
I gotta go now back up some data
