Hi

i experience a strange mozilla/firefox/gecko related issue:

i cannot connect to ANY website anymore with the following limitations:

using konqueror or opera works well - so its not system-network issue
using a proxy in firefox/mozilla doesnt show up this error - and all is well
browsing in the local network ( e.g. Modem interface, localhost ) works well too

BUT everything else (external) fails .. i tried running firefox as different user , deleted profiles , completely reinstalled all mozilla or firefox related stuff -- no change .. it fails for all mozilla/gecko related webaccess .. so even Mozilla has the same problem on my gentoo

i have not a slice of idea what this could be

anybody - any idea ??

Have you tried removing /usr/lib/mozilla, completely, after you uninstall (and before a reinstall)? If there's anything in there it might cause you problems. Just a guess.

The only other thing I can think of is that Mozilla/Firefox is set to use an invalid proxy. Check the connection settings in the General tab in the Firefox config.

i would totally agree with you
if the proxy-settings would not already be disabled :(
network.proxy.type value in about:config is set to "0" .. anyway using a proxy always works :-/
and "Server not found" seems like a dns-handeling problem or dont it ?

If you haven't already tried this, in about:config, set "network.dns.disableIPv6" to true and see if it helps any. If it is already true, try setting it to false.
