My problem is simple: I can type "`", but I can't type characters like "è", "é" or "à". Furthermore, I've just noticed that I can't type the "forward" "`", only "¸" (by pressing ALT and "`").
Do you know how to type those characters? |

Try using keyboard layout variants, e.g.
Code: | setxkbmap -model pc105 -layout de -variant deadgraveacute |
or use the keyboard layout configuration tool in Gnome or KDE. Some keys then "preload" the accent and add it to the character typed afterwards. |

Thanks, that worked like a charm!
To make the setting permanent, I set the value of XkbVariant in /etc/X11/xorg.conf to "deadgraveacute". |
