Hi,
I have some problem with my volume controller. I'm using Gentoo 2006.0, installed few days ago, and gnome as desktop enviroment. The problem is that each time I reboot my system, the master and the other volume controls are stted to the default value. For example my master is setted to 0%, my VIA DXS to 100%...
How may I solve this issue? This problem doesn't affect the volume of Totem.

Have you added alsasound to the boot runlevel?
Code:
 rc-update add alsasound boot

And check if the variable in your /etc/conf.d/alsasound is
Code:
SAVE_ON_STOP="yes"

You can handle with the settings of alsa also using command alsactl.

have you installed both alsa-utils and alsa lib besides alsa-drivers

/etc/init.d/alsasound is that script that saves your mixer levels at shutdown and loads them on boot in the file /etc/asound.state, if you want you can also manually modify this file.

please install alsa-utils and then
Code:

   rc-update add alsasound boot

Excuse me, why should I need alsa-utils? if I can hear the sounds doesn't the system works well? And if they are absolutely necessary how can I merge them? Isn't another way to let te system remeber the last configuration of the volume?

Have you tried
Code:
emerge alsa-utils
?
This could help ...

I didn't merged alsa-utils. Before doing this I would like to know why I cannot save my volume configuration! Is it impossible to do without alsa-utils, or they are just a simple way to overcome this problem?

no, because alsa-utils provides the utilities for managing alsa. you need these utils to further enhance the base capability of playing sound.

Don't worry and emerge alsa-utils. Alsa-guide says:
Quote:
alsa-utils forms an integral part of ALSA as it has a truckload of programs that are highly useful, including the ALSA Initscripts. Hence we strongly recommend that you install alsa-utils
