Hi
I have problems whith my HomePNA adsl connection. I have tried set it up whith these instructions http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Connect_using_PPPoE
I installed my gentoo from LiveCD and selected my HomePNA card there. It was named eth1. eth0 was normal useles ethernet card (integrated on motherboard).
Now when I run ifconfig -a, I can see eth0 and lo. Is this eth0 HomePNA card or ethernet card? There is also "Network tools" -program and it shows same devices. When I take homePNA card out of my computer, eth0 disappears there. So I think that eth0 is HomePNA card.
pppoe-start gives "Time out" -error message
and in /var/log/messages:
pppd 2.4.2 started by root, uid 0
using interface ppp0
connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/1
LCP: timeout sending config-Requests
Connection terminated.
using interface ppp0
connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/2
I think there is something wrong about /dev/pts/1. There is not file /dev/pts/1, only /dev/pts/0 exists. Why pppoe-start doesn't try connect /dev/pts/0?
My old system is RedHat 8 and there connection works fine. It connects using /dev/pts/0. When I run pppop-start (adsl-start), log shows:
pppd 2.4.1 started by root, uid 0
/etc/hotplug/net.agent: assuming ppp0 is already up
Using interface ppp0
Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/0
PPP session is 47535
I have also tried start connection by "/etc/init.d/net.ppp0 start", but it gives error message "No loaded modules provide "ppp" (ppp_start)" |

Problem solved, eth0 was normal ethernet card. HomePNA card came up when I loaded module dmfe. |
