Ok I have a new computer. The motherboard is an Asus A8N-E and the chipset fan is really loud. Durring bootup it is very loud at 6000rpms. I installed windows, and after installing the nforce4 drivers, then fan slowed down and can not be heard once windows boots (its around 4000rpms). Both ubuntu, and gentoo do not scale this fan by default. From my reading I gather I have to setup lm_sensors to control this chipset fan. Does anyone have a tutorial on how to use lm_sensors to control your chipset fan speed based on chipset temp?

nevermind, I realized it wasn't the chipset fan, it was indeed scaling, but my video card fan was not scaling. After installing the nvidia drivers, everything is fine. |
