I have a fresh gentoo installation (after June 3rd update debacle!) and have everything re-installed with exception of firestarter and iptables. I need to configure my kernel for iptables support, recompile it etc. I'd like to have firestarter come online automatically at boot up. How do I set that up??

Thanks,

rc-update add firestarter default
If there is no init script called firestarter then as root go to /etc/init.d and with you favorite editor (i.e. vi) create one.
If you use vi firestarter in /etc/init.d/ folder it will come up with a skeleton script.

OK...cool, everything is up and running. One thing though, I'd like to be able to have access to firestarter as user. Not sure of the correct command lingo to use to assign firestarter user rights.

Another thing, is anti-virus protection recommended ? Say clamav or some other I'm unaware of ? I have clamav on ubuntu but I'm not sure if it's needed. Thoughts appreciated.

sudo firestarter will work, assuming that you have setup up sudo correctly for your user.

About antivirus I use f-prot. If you want an antivirus protection then put it on. Is not of if you need it. I use f-prot with a cronjob to check my computer every night at 3:00 AM (I am asleep then) and I get a report in my e-mail about the cronjob scan.
