Hello,

I've been trying to get ut 2004 running for a couple of hours now, but I've reached a point, where I don't get any further. Please help me, if you have an idea how to go on :)

My system:
Graphics device: ATI Radeon 9500 Atlantis
Processor: AMD Athlon XP 2600+
Kernel: 2.6.16-gentoo-r7

ati-drivers

has been emerged and

aticonfig --initial

is done. But when invoking

/opt/ut2k4/ut2004

after I get the splash screen (but before there is a menu or something), the game quits with the following output:

I don't have an ATI card but I see your GLX vendor is half SGI and ATI, ie not purely the same. As well as running "eselect ogengl set <diriver>" use 24 bit color depth.

So there are actually two different drivers at work... what can I do against that?

And then, I've got another question: What exactly do you mean by

I just want to be sure to get you right, as I don't know, what the above command does (as mentioned above, I'm quite new to gentoo).

Two things there, the first is to configure gentoo to use the desired opengl driver. Do a
Quote:
eselect opengl list

to see what is available. The other thing is to set X to use 24 bit color - it is done by editing your X conf.

I would definitely suggest: rm -r /opt/ut2k4 && emerge ut2004, to get an up-to-date installation.

Hi,

I re-installed the game via emerge, including the patches, but it still exits with the same message and the logfile states the same error: Couldn't find matching GLX visual. This doesn't sound like an error within the game itself, does it? I believe that there still is some sort of error in my AGP or OpenGL support. Maybe some kernel modules don't work correctly since the ati driver has been installed? Any ideas?

Just a side note before you get everything installed:

I saw that you only get about 350 FPS with you're card on glxgears. It may seem like a lot, but its nothing compared to the load UT2004 will put on there. It probably won't be playable even at the lowest settings... I don't know either its just because you have an ATI card (I never could get my Radeon 9200 to play UT2004), or it could possibly be a driver or something. I have a XFX GeForce 7800GT and here's how I average out:

Good luck though :), sorry I can't be of much help but its usually just that one line of code that needs uncommenting before everything works. Post you're ~/.ut2004/System/ut2004.ini and I'll see if there are any problems in there.
