hey guys, i've been using this gentoo box for a while now, it's 2.6.16-r7 kernel, everything worked perfect, i was tinkering artound with OpenVPN and two endpoints, one at home, and this one being at work.. worked perfectly yesterday.... now all of a sudden today, the box got forcefully shut off... and now... it won't get a dhcp address like everyother box on the network does.. dhcpcd times out... even when i set an ipaddress with
ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.49 255.255.255.0
then add a route with route add -net 192.168.1.0/24 gw 192.168.1.1 i can't ping my gateway, nor can i ping anytone else on the lan... what the heck is going on. i've never had this issue before, the machine only has one route in it's routing table, not sure if that's strange or not, but might be normal as no adapters have address at the moment....
any ideas guys... why the heck wouldn't dhcpcd be doing it's job???
now i just used the /etc/conf.d/net.example to create my interface as 192.168.1.49 255.255.255.0 with a gw of 192.168.1.1 but it still won't get to my host, what the hell might've happened within the past hour that would have caused this....... this is lousey indeed... anyone?

hmm maybe if u say that the machine had a forced shutdown, maybe your ethernet interface got screwed? it can happen if any high voltage gets somehow in your ethernet cables, even if there is some kind of hazard with your home electricity it can screw up your ethernet interface, have you tested it in another computer? it worked? _________________ Destruction Also Breeds Creation. |
