package specific cflags?

I want to be able to make sure that wxgtk builds properly for vlc however -fvisibility-inlines-hidden apparently causes it to not work but I plan on giving kde a chance and that flag is apparently good for kde so I would like to leave it in make.conf and just override it for vlc and wxgtk is there any way to do that? Preferably I would like to have the setting in a config file akin to package.use rather than overriding the cflag on the CLI every time.
