It happens when Myth is playing back recordings, or when i "watch videos" using Mplayer. The image seems to be correct horizontally, but I can only see the top 1/3 or 1/4 of the image vertically. Since the problem affects both of these, and I'm not sure if mplayer is used for Myth recording playback, maybe it is a driver problem?

The GUI, view images, play music dialogs all appear normally, just video playback is stretched.

How did you record the files that are not playing back correctly?
Will MythDVD or Mplayer play dvds correctly?

Oh, I don't have MythDVD installed.

My PVR had a meltdown. To make a long story short, I ended up recompiling the whole system, which included upgraded versions of pretty much everything. I was running MythTv 0.19 before the meltdown, so this is just a minor release difference.

The files I'm trying to watch were recorded from when the PVR was working normally. This leads me to believe it's a playback issue and the content is just fine.

Thanks for your consideration.

You probably have an ATI card in your system.
If true the problem lies with the XVideo overlay in combination with TV-out as explained here :
http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=309

Solutions are:
Switch to a different overlay (opengl/x11) but both are very slow.
You could also try using vidix overlay but this is broken on my 9100 IGP so i'm not sure if that would work (it works on my 9600 XT but i'm not using TV-out on that system)

Switch back to an older ati driver, i use 8.19.10 but 8.20.8 seems to work fine too
you'll have to switch to an older kernel <= 2.6.15 for those to work.
