|
|
Hi. New gentoo user here.
I'm trying to build gnome as follows:
Code: | #emerge -DuNp gnome
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies ...
!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy "=x11-libs/gtk+-1.2*" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- x11-libs/gtk+-1.2.10-r10 (masked by: package.mask)
- x11-libs/gtk+-1.2.10-r11 (masked by: package.mask)
For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man page or
refer to the Gentoo Handbook.
!!! (dependency required by "gnome-base/gnome-libs-1.4.2" [ebuild])
|
I guess that I could make it compile by unmasking the package, but isn't it masked for a reason?
What should I do?
Thanks, guys. _________________ God save us from His followers. |

have you tried emerging the newest version of gtk+? on my gentoo box, when i emerge -p gtk+ it shows version 2.8.12 whereas yours shows 1.2.10. its probably masked because its ancient.
ummm maybe try emerge -Op gnome and check the version? |

you are not right.
there are to branches of gtk - gtk1.x and gtk2.x. though gtk2 is newerm gtk1 is still used in aplenty of apps. And in most cases you need both installed as a SLOTs. For example I have both:
x11-libs/gtk+-1.2.10-r11
x11-libs/gtk+-2.8.18
2 kramer2718:
1.2 is not hard-masked and most recent versions (1.2.10-r10, 1.2.10-r11) are marked as stable for almost all archs (alpha amd64 arm hppa ia64 mips ppc ppc64 x86). Possible you've masked it by yourself, please look at your /etc/portage/package.mask |

RIP:
Thanks for the info. It makes sense to me. From some of the discussions that I've seen, gtk 1.2 looked like a usable package.
I'll unmask it and see if that takes care of my problem. I'll post back to this thread if this issue is not resolved.
Thanks again. _________________ God save us from His followers. |
