I have an ext3 partition I have shared files for both Gentoo and Windows. I couldn't use FAT because I need to work with files that are over 4 GB in size.

Problems arise when I use non-ASCII characters in filenames. My Gentoo is set to use UTF-8, and Windows seems to have trouble understanding filenames with such special characters. Is it possible to use a mount option that'd make Gentoo translate filenames into Windows format when writing files and then translating them back to UTF-8 when I need to access them on Gentoo? So that the files would be stored in a Windows-compatible manner but remain intelligible even for my Linux system.

I've tried to find a suitable option in the mount man page but with few results.

How do you read ext2 in windows?
Anyways, I think the problem is in windows' driver configuration... i would check there.

I use ext2ifs. It does not support translating UTF-8, so there's nothing that can be done there, as it forces the Windows character encoding, whatever it is.
