Hello all,
I have recently re-installed Gentoo after being away from it for about a year. I am trying to get 3D acceleration working.
I have done this so far:
-set "agp" and "nforce" as modules in kernel config
-emerged the latest stable ATI-drivers (8.21.7?)
-used "eselect" to set OpenGL to ATI
-ran "xorgconfig" and then "aticonfig --initial --input=/etc/X11/xorg.conf"
Now when I startx and run fglrxinfo it tells me that iit is using Mesa. Have I done anything wrong? What can I do to fix this?

Okay, I think I'm slowly getting there.
I am now loading "agpgart," "nvidia-agp," and "fglrx".
However, I now get the following error message from "glxinfo:"
libGL error: failed to open DRM: Operation not permitted
libGL error: reverting to (slow) indirect rendering
Whenever I try to close X now I simply get a black screen. I cannot ctrl-alt-del to reboot.
Anyone have any further ideas?

Alright. I have uncommented the "DRI" 0666 part (I have no idea why ATI's script left this commented). Anyway, I now have 3D and fglrxinfo reports ATI instead of MESA.
My problem is that I cannot exit blackbox back to the command prompt. Any thoughts on this?

This needs to get uncommented in your xorg.xonf so you can use dri as a user instead of root.

this thread is a little dead, but the issue can still come up.
i had this problem just about now, and i realized that i had compiled DRI into the kernel. removing it solved ths issue. |
