Automatic graphic card driver choose wrong

Hello there!

As the title says, when im trying to install gentoo, it finds the graphic card, and it choose the versa driver, howerver it is an nvidia driver wich is needed. The screen just goes into black when im trying to get into the install.

I tried another linux(libranet) and the sames happends when i was auto selecting my hardware, however I tryed to manual choose, i could choose nvidia driver and it worked fine.. So is there anyway i can choose the nvidia driver so i can get it working?

Welcome to gentoo.

The vesa driver should work with any graphics card less than about 8 years old.
nv and nvidia would both be better but for the install, it does not matter.

You can edit the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf after you get to the command line and restart Xorg, or you can try the ncurses installer by using the nox option on the command line. Read the help in the Fn screens.

im pretty noobish to linux so

Well anyway i seems like the vesa driver doesn't works since i tried it on another linux where it works if I choose the nv driver and not the vesa driver..

i dont really get how i should edit the file. When i get to the command line it instant reboot.

edit: oh so I can when i boot from the cd write "gentoo nox" and it will take the command line so i can edit it to the nv driver in the xorg.conf file?

Thats right. nox means No Xorg, so it will start without a graphical user interface (GUI)
You can use the text-graphic installer, or fix the GUI.
The text-graphic installer is good enough.

sry for asking dumb again

So i boot with nox, change the file to nv driver, and then install the GUI? but how do i install the GUI?

The liveCD you have supports three installers.
If all goes well, it starts the Graphical one. That failed for you, hence your original post.

okay, i get to the command line enter installer and gets to the setup, but when I have finished i get back to the commandline wich print out "the setup program seem to has failed"

Are there any error messages in dmesg, or in the files in /var/log ?

it might be a kernel error, i choosed "livecd kernel" then i tried to take another one(dont remeber wich one) and it started with partionting(or how you spell it lol), i though "yes finaly it works", went for something to drink and when i came back the computer was off... Im going to try again and stay with it this time to see whats happening..

And it says the /var/log doesn't excits..

okay i tried again with the second kernel on the list(dont remeber name) it was the "safest" the installation is starting but after short time it comes up with this error:

MountError :fatal: mount_local_partitions:
Could not load partition

But anyway, i though i needed to use the livecd kernel right? and when i do that, it crashes without any other error messeges than "the setup program seems to have failed"
