Hello,

Have been grepping docs/forums/google for how gentoo deals with this, and after looking through the 'net.lo' init script, I'm not so sure that it can.

What I need to be able to do is configure & start a network subinterface (vlanned, so, for example, eth0.1000) without doing a full 'net.eth0 restart'.

So, the interface is already configured & has vlans running, etc. When I go to configure the next one and add it in, gentoo doesn't seem to have a graceful way of doing it.

Aside from doing the vconfig & ifconfig (or ip addr add) manually so that I don't have to tear down & bring up the whole interface, does gentoo have a scripted 'gentooized' method of doing this?

Thanks...

We have no support for that right now.

Interesting idea though, but as I'm likely to forget you can always request it on bugs.gentoo.org

Ah, ok. Well, I've posted an enhancement bug for it.

Thanks for letting me know!

Turned out the patch for that was quite simple :)
