VIA VT6420 SATA on 2.6.16

Hey Folks,

i'm in the process of building a pvr based on a Via Epia SP13000. while following the handbook, i installed the latest stable kernel from portage, which was 2.6.16-gentoo-r9. After 48 hours of getting VFS: Cannot open root device "sda3" errors when booting, i rolled my kernel back to the stable version of 2.6.15...which is still only r1. (I figured, if the install cd was able to work with my drive...something was fishy)

In any case, i loaded the old config, made the kernel, and booted straight in.

Thus, there seems to be something wrong with the VIA VT6420 SATA RAID Controller kernel support somewhere in the 2.6.16 tree, that was not there in the earlier version.

Is anyone able to shed some light on this? Shall i post a bug...as in my case the kernel was not as stable as it was marked?
