Ok... currently I have a D-link 4 port ADSL router setup with two pcs plugged in to it. I have port forwarding switched on so that pc1 can be used (with a dynamic dns service) as a webserver. Both pc's can get on the internet, and I can also ssh from one to the other.
The other day I bought a new book, 'Linux Firewalls 3rd edition' and today im going to buy another machine to use soley as a firewall / router. I own an 8 port switch and imagine my setup would be something like....
D-link plugs into ADSL line.
Lead running from D-Link to firewall machine eth1.
Lead running from firewall machine eth2 into 8port switch.
My other two machines (webserver and workstation) plug into the switch.
Code: |
ADSL
|
|
FIREWALL
|
|
SWITCH
| |
| |
PC1 PC2

Ive really no idea about networking, but obviously am looking to learn.
Is this considered a proper setup? I meen... shoud things be done differently?
I really want both my machines protected by this (new) firewall / router machine that Im going to be configuring. _________________ Research before taking any advice from me. I'm still coming to grips with this myself. |

That setup looks fine and is the 'usual' way. |
