I'm trying to install gentoo 2006.0 from installcd amd64. I have followed all handbook advices concerning setting up eth1 connection (ifconfig ->route->/etc/resolv.conf). In spite of this
Code:
ifconfig eth1
produced the following text:

Code:
eth 1 Link encap:Ethernet HWadder 00:16:17:43:11:D9
        inet addr:192.168.110.20 Bcast:192.168.110.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
        RX packets:75 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
        TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:3 overruns:0 carrier:0
        collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
        RX bytes: 10518 (10.2 Kb) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
        Interrupt:17 Base addres:0xa000

Network doesn`t work. Why?

When you say "network doesn't work", What do you mean? You cant communicate with other machines on you network? You cant get on the internet?

What does the output of 'route -n' say? Can you ping by IP address?

slack1729,

does your system have 2 nics? Are you sure that you connected the cable to the "proper" one?
Please post the relevant output from netstat -nr, /etc/resolv.conf and traceroute.
