Hi, I am trying to play a .mp4 file and I recive an error saying "FPS not specified in the header or invalid, use the -fps option"
I have used "gmplayer -fps 30 file.mp4" and I am able to see some images from de movie, but it don't play ok (I supose the value is wrong). Any way to fix it?
thanks a lot. |

The only way to fix it, is to re-encode the mp4-file and include the framerate information. It's not a problem with mplayer (unless you've tried other players and they do fine. In that case, I'd say it was a codec-problem).
-fps 30 will work, if the movie was encoded with that framerate, but there's absolutely no guarantee for that. I'd try other framerates as well, such as 24:
Code: | VIDEO: [mp4v] 640x480 24bpp 23.976 fps 0.0 kbps ( 0.0 kbyte/s) |
The above is the mplayer output from playing a mp4-file. |

yeah i'm getting this crap too on some of the new anime releases, very strange, and it seems no matter what fps you put in, the audio and video are never in sync. i heard there are many different implimentations of mp4, would the latest not have the fps in the header correctly. This is a royal pain. |
