I am downloading the Gentoo minimal x86 install CD, have to burn the ISO onto a CD. This thing is rather small, I assume it doesn't have many software packages with it? So how do you get software like Apache, MySQL server, Samba installed?
Thanks much,

Basically, portage, gentoo's package manager, downloads the source code for packages when you want to build them. When you've done the installation, look at this bit of the manual, which introduces how things work. |

The suggested way is taking all software from a portage mirror and not from a cd. So you can be sure having stable and up to date software. So a minimal cd is enough installing gentoo. |

It doesn't have any software packages on it. The basic Gentoo system is installed from a "stage file" which must be downloaded separately, the rest is downloaded as source packages and compiled on your machine. See the Gentoo Handbook. |
