Okay, I've looked around and can't find anything on building gentoo from stage 1... What I want to do is run gentoo with vmware just for a webserver... Alls I want is Apache, PHP, Perl, MySQL, Psychostats and FTP. And whatever is needed to run those.
Can someone help me out by telling me what to do or point me in the right direction? |

hey ltcjohnson, welcome to the forum!
a really good way to learn and install gentoo is to actually do it yourself - that is, to install the system manually.
download and burn the minimal installation cd, and follow the gentoo handbook.
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/index.xml
once you're finished, you can compile a graphical display manager and configure your graphics settings.
with gentoo, it's really simple to get the applications you need. you'll find out more about portage.
have fun! |
