wine-cvs is a bit.. uhm.. unspecific, because cvs means you check out cvs HEAD, and one can't reliably provide a patch against HEAD that applies cleanly everytime. This long strange 'number' (a SHA hash number) was the git tree against which my patch was made, it was yesterdays git (and also probably cvs) HEAD. |

Anyone has difficulties to run addons?
I have major troubles to get some addons running. The odd thing is that they are updated for 1.10.
But neverthe lest I geting errormessages all the time.
I thought at first it is a problem within WoW but now I am not so sure anymore.
I have troubles with the latest version of fishease and bagnon.
Anyone has similar problems? _________________ quote from Spaceballs:

I try to run WoW on cedega and I can't get the game running normally after the first startup. I explain :
when I start WoW with the config.wtf empty the game starts and I can play normally in 1024*768.
Then I exit the game, and try to start it again : the screen goes black and the game wont start. Why?
I post my config.wtf.

This is a known occurance in Cedega.
On the general options tab, turn the scheduler off.
That fixed my problem. _________________ Sysadmin of Ubuntu systems and servers....

Ever since yesterday (I have no clue what happened), the only thing I can think of that might have affected this change is a slight messup in wine when I tried to wine winace and had to forcequit it many times.
The game immediately crashes after logging in and getting to the "downloading" part of the login screen. pixelshaders are off in the config.wtf, so this is probably not the problem, please help!
This application has encountered a critical error:

Last time I saw that the answer was -opengl. |

Error 132 is the generic error of WoW.. it does not tell you anything about the cause.
Cannot help if it's a wine config screwed up by the crashes you described but otherwise known source of errors at the end of load screen are rendering issue or addons. Try removing all addons (most frequent cause of pb after patchs), and try both with and w/o opengl. _________________ "May God stands between you and harm in all the empty places where you must walk" - Babylon 5 |

After the last patch, the game lcoks up after login, at a "downloading" dialog, but only in windowed mode. I tried this on two different computers with the same result. This happens before the character selection screen. Anyone else seeing this?
This is with wine-0.9.8-r1 + wow patches. |

I used my friends Config.wtf file and after I log in it just freezes. I left it for about 15mins and WoW comes up with this error
ERROR #132 (0x85100084) Fatal Exception

I just started getting this (the freeze just past login) as well.
I was playing fine at 6pm pacific daylight-savings time (UTC-7), raiding AQ-20. At 8:30pm I sign off to head to dinner, then at 9:30 I try to sign back on. It does the usual 'handshaking' etc - gets to 'downloading' and hangs there.
When I use 'emulate virtual desktop' in winecfg I just get a black window. When I click off 'emulate virtual desktop' I see it is looping continually blanking and redrawing the login splash-screen with a 'downloading' box in the middle, and a 'cancel' button that clicking on does nothing. Hitting the escape key a few times in rapid sequence exits cleanly. No apparent difference using -opengl versus omitting that option to WoW.exe
I then tried booting to a spare partition with Fedora 4 and Cedega on it (from about 6 months ago from before I started using Gentoo). It works fine there.
Very puzzling.
Edit: CPU is amd64 4400 dualcore, graphics is geforce 7800.
I had been using wine-20050930 with patches.
Upon encountering the problem I tried upgrading to wine-0.9.11, but the build failed with the following error message: Quote: | /usr/lib64/libSM.so: could not read symbols: File in wrong format
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
|
I then tried emerging wine-0.9.10, which built fine, and it still gives the same symptoms. |

Akkara what version of cedega is that you have installed on your fedora. If I cannot fix wine soon I am going to just switch to playing with cedega. |

I'm having the exact same problem.
I found a link on the WoW forums (of all places), pointing to this thread. I changed the permissions on "WDB\Survey.mpq" to remove write access. Voila! Character selection screen .
Looks like it's something to do with that ultra-quick "submitting non-personal imformation" thing that comes up right before "downloading"... |

Amazing. I can confirm this works, even thought this is my first post and I don't use Gentoo.
I had WoW working for the past couple of days, then out of no where, this problem arises. As the dude a few posts back (Akkara) said, I was happily playing April 4th at one time, then a couple hours later things went awry. During that time there was a message claiming that Blizzard was working on login server issues. I wonder if it's all related.......
I've spent HOURS debugging this -- redid my wine config, reverted kernel config to what I had yesterday, re-installed WoW from CDs (what a PITA), etc, all with the same result. Oh yeah, this is all with wine 0.9.11 with a tweaked wine patch from previous versions.
Geeze.
Anyway thanks for tthe solution! I'm not a Gentoo user (I do the Linux from Scratch thing which I guess is very similar!), but there's lots of useful info here.
Cheers,
Keith |

I like to try out cedega. Is there a way to use my existing WoW-installation without new installation into cedega?
Thanks,

5.1.1 (I like to keep it updated even if I wasn't using it)
Further information:
I read the post regarding removing write access from WDB/Survey.mpq. Quote: | chmod 444 WDB/Survey.mpq |
This fixed it for me. (How do you all even think to try these things? I'm impressed )
I was also reading a post that suggested turning off the full-screen glow effect by editing the file WTF/Config.wtf, searching for the line with ffxGlow in it and changing it to: I tested this out by performing this change and also undoing the previous fix (by re-enabling write access to WDB/Survey.mpq). The game again did not get past the 'downloading' screen, however this time running in 'emulate virtual desktop' mode displayed the stuck downloading screen rathar than a black screen like previously.
Now I just gotta find that wow-fix patch again (fresh install of 0.9.10 currently, with no wow-specific fixes yet).
Thanks again for all your help, these forums are a treasure!
