I got the same problem, although I have switched to the emu10k1 driver.
Code:

emerge emu10k1

This driver however seems to bork when I use my second output channel...but that doesn't get used that often...
Would be nice to be able to use ALSA though

Anyone have any ideas about this ?

I get crackled sound in UT2003 no matter whether I use ALSA or OSS drivers for emu10k1. Usually changing the sound options to "Safe Mode" makes it go away.

It is quite weird to say so, but it performs quite well. My comps suites things like xine (although i still use mplayer of coz.) and arts etc.. as it is a SMP comp with lots of ram and a very fast graphics cards.
