For some time my Konqueror has been crashing when ever I visit the news site from Danmarks Radio http://www.dr.dk/nyheder/ - At the end of the page, it pops up a message about a javascript taking a long time, and no matter if I tell it to continue or abort the script, Konq goes down.

I can visit the same site with my work machine, which uses Debian (sarge/etch mix).

I have tried to emerge Konqueror again, but that seems not to help. What else should I emerge again. Any special options for emerge to make sure it recompiles everything??

I know this is not much info to go by, what more should I provide?

The site you mentions works fine for me with KDE 3.5.3. You could start by at least giving us the KDE version, and the version of your compiler and CFLAGS/CXXFLAGS.
Code:
emerge --info

Konqueror 3.4.3 (using KDE 3.4.3)

GCC:

gcc version 3.3.6 (Gentoo 3.3.6, ssp-3.3.6-1.0, pie-8.7.8)

Nothing in CFLAGS or CXXFLAGS that I can see, but see emrge --info below.

Not quite sure what to recommend to you. You might have good reasons for sticking with kde 3.4.3, although 3.5.2 is the current stable one. I also noticed that you have not yet upgraded your compiler to the latest stable 3.4.6. Again, you might have your reasons for this.

AFAIK a lot of work went into kjs, the KDE javascript engine, between 3.4.x and 3.5.2. As I cannot reproduce your crash with a 3.5.x series konqueror I suggest you upgrade. The traceback shows that the crash is javascript related. As a workaround you could disable javascript for the offending page (in Settings > Configure Konqueror > Java & Javascript > Javascript > Domain-Specific).

Hmm, there is something fishy here - I am trying to run the current stable gentoo, and I run regular updates of everything. Actually, it seems like I have some kde 3.5.2 stuff installed.

Also, in my /usr/bin/, I have gcc-3.3.6 and gcc-4.3.6.

Am I missing some steps in my weekly update routine? Obviously the new stuff gets in, but is not used. I thought it was sufficient to run emerge sync and emerge -uDp world, and I would get the latest stuff in. Don't say I have to reboot for the changes to take effect ?? (Sorry, I am mostly a Debian admin, dabbling on Gentoo on my spare time).

This could explain some other anomalies I am seeing, like xine-lib not compiling, KOrganizer complaining of permissions, etc.

For gcc upgrade I suggest you to look on Gentoo Linux GCC Upgrade Guide and also it seem you have new KDE installed. Just go to kdm and choose 3.5.2 session.

Your box need a "little" cleanup :D From my experience, "emerge -uDp world" is not enough to be uptodate.

Thanks - I did log out from my KDE (almost as bad as rebooting!) and logged in again to KDE 3.5, and voila, the page did not crash any more.

I will dig deeper into the gcc upgrade issue. Maybe I am spoiled with Debian, where upgrades happen almost automagically - that's why I have chosen Gentoo to play at home, to keep my fingers deep in the dirty details of the system...

Thanks for everyone who contributed good advice. As usual, the fault is in my end...
