|
|
Hi folks.
I have a minimal Gentoo box which serves DNS and DHCP.
DHCP is a multiple VLAN arrangement which uses a bunch of subnet clauses.
I'm looking for a web-based configuration tool so I can have handicapped (MCSE) IT guys work it. In fact, it would be good to have a web-based service manager so each service can be restarted if possible.
The specific tools I'm using are net-misc/dhcp and net-dns/bind. I also have apache2 on this box, so if it's an apache plugin that would be wonderful.
In doing a very cursory search, I didn't find anything that covers this. I'm pretty sure it has to be out there somewhere, and probably duplicates. I'd like to hear about what is easiest to use.

You might want to try app-admin/webmin.
It can be used to configure and maintain both Bind and DHCP. Of course, it supports Apache, Squid, Sendmail, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SSH, Samba and tons of other software, too.
Btw, I'll eat my shoe if you searched at all because the very first hit on Google for "linux web administration" is, surprise, surprise, WebMin. :-) _________________ If you feel the issues discussed in this thread have been resolved, please add a "[Solved]" to the subject of your original posting. |

I searched on "bind http admin" and "dhcp http admin" and got not much at all that seemed to be related to administering either through http.
Thanks, I never tried linux web administration. I wouldn't have thought of that in a year of trying. Granted, my brain must be shutting down due to old age or something. My searches were horrible.
I'll try that package out. Thanks again. |

It is if you're serious about letting MCSE's near your server |

That's my opinion too, but since I'm the only linux geek in the area it's either find a way they can maintain stuff or switch over to something they like to use. |

This is sorta unnecessary, but it's a nice addon to Webmin.
I didn't like the default gui of webmin, so I downloaded some themes.... Stress-Free Tiger is a nice theme I think...
